Doris Farnham

Doris Nellie (McPherson) Farnham, 81, died peacefully Aug. 17, 2018. Doris was born in St. Francis, Maine, the daughter of Hanford and Marguerite (Dubois) McPherson.

Doris loved to travel, read, do crafts, and spend time with her family. She spent years working in retail and banking; her outgoing and warm personality made her work more than a profession – she truly enjoyed making others’ lives better. Her greatest joy was in spending time with her family and extended family.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary Ann and Stewart LaRocque; her son Donald Lagasse Jr.; her son and daughter-in-law Scott and Teresa Lagasse; and her son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Allison Eno Lagasse. She also leaves six grandchildren Shannon Holl, Amanda Bateman, Ashley Graham, Echo Granger, Colt Lagasse, Wade Lagasse; her brothers and sister Raymond, Roy, Neal, Herb, and Irene; and great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her parents Hanford and Marguerite (Dubois) McPherson; brothers Melvin, Robert, Lesley, Peter; sister Linda; her husbands Donald Lagasse Sr. and James Farnham; and her grandson Hal J. Buntele Jr.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the VFW on River Street in Springfield, Vt., Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 from 2–6 p.m. Burial will be private.

Emily B. Shute

Emily B. Shute, 102, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Springfield, the daughter of Newton and Laura (Bardon) Bishop.

She graduated in 1932 from Springfield High School and later, from Concord (New Hampshire) Business School.

On Sept. 15, 1945, she married Elbridge Clifton Shute in Springfield. He predeceased her Jan. 6, 2013.

Mrs. Shute worked at Springfield Savings & Loan and C.G. Leonard Insurance Agency for several years, and later assisted her husband with his business, Springfield Home Improvement Co., for many years, as well as running her home and caring for her family.

She was a member of United Methodist Church and its Women’s Fellowship Group, as well as a needlecraft club and the Alturian Club.

Survivors include a son, James Shute of Windsor, a grandson and great-grandson.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at United Methodist Church in Springfield, where friends may call at 1 p.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. Gerry Piper, pastor. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church, 10 Valley St., Springfield, VT 05156. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Janice V. Malinowski

Janice V. Malinowski, 78, of Springfield, died after a long illness Aug. 15, 2016.

She was born March 21, 1938, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of Sydney Charles and Florence (Hunt) Peaslee.

She attended school in Petersham, Massachusetts, and was valedictorian of her high school class in 1956.

Mrs. Malinowski had a long career in banking at First National Bank and Bryant Credit Union in Springfield.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and volunteered for the Springfield Humane Society and Springfield Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Malinowski; her son, Jon of New Windsor, New York; and her sister, Gail of Raleigh, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Humane Society at spfldhumane.org/donations.html.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Davis Memorial Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial to follow. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.

Cora Johnson, 98

Cora J. Johnson, 98, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Springfield Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Rutland, the daughter of Roy and Florence (Coon) Fenstermaker. She attended Rutland schools, graduating from Rutland High School in 1936. She married Carl H. Johnson on May 11, 1940, in Bridgewater Corners. He predeceased her on Aug. 22, 1999. She lived in Rutland for many years, moving to Springfield in 1967. She worked at the Economy Store in Rutland, and later at the Rutland Savings Bank. In Springfield, she worked at Vermont National Bank, retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of United Methodist Church in Springfield, the Springfield Senior Center, RSVP, the 1918 Club and the Precision Valley Squares. She enjoyed square dancing, ball room dancing, crocheting, knitting, and pottery.

She is survived by two sons, Carl H. Johnson Jr. of Springfield, and David B. Johnson of Chester, four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and several nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Carl; and two sisters Florence Minard and Virginia Bodre.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Davis Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2 p,m. with the Rev. Gerry Piper officiaing. Bernadette T. LaPerle, 67

Bernadette T. (Marsden) LaPerle, of Pownal, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at the age of 67. She was born Jan. 5, 1949, in Springfield, VT, the daughter of Robert and Evelyn (McKenna) Lane, and later lived in the Bennington area for more than 50 years.

She is survived by her husband, John LaPerle of Pownal. Three daughters Becky Farrington of Bennington, Andrea Hennelly of Boston and Tina Mathers of Bennington; a stepson, Steven Marsden of Bennington; six grandchildren; and a brother, Bertram Lane of Woodford. Mrs. LaPerle was predeceased by her son, Barry James Marsden.

She was devoted to her children and worked for many years as a stay-at-home mother. She later worked as a bank teller for 25 years at Vermont National and Chittenden Banks in Bennington. She was also a member of the Pownal Legion Auxiliary for 15 years. She enjoyed camping in the summer months and living in North Port, Fla., during the winter months with her husband.

Friends may call from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on with a memorial service immediately following at 5 p.m. Contributions in memory of Bernadette T. LaPerle may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter or the Pownal Rescue Squad through the office of Mahar and Son Funeral Home.
