John Swiniarski

John (Jack) Swiniarski Jr., 68, of Springfield, Vermont, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center following a heart attack.

He was born Dec. 3, 1948, in Beverly, Massachusetts, the son of the late John Sr. and Anna (Bajkiewicz) Swiniarski. He attended North Bennet Street Industrial School in Boston, Massachusetts, and began work as a licensed contractor. He then worked for the United States Postal Service for 28 years until his retirement in 2008, where he held positions such as supervisor, postmaster and district finance manager of several offices across Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Jack was an avid card player, had a passion for numismatics, and took pride in his landscaping.

He is survived by four daughters, Tara Fly, husband Paul and sons Nathaniel and Caleb of Edmonds, Washington; Heather Rae Dunn, husband Bill and daughter Mara of Stoneham, Massachusetts; Alexis Swiniarski of Grafton, Ohio; and Samantha Swiniarski of Keene, New Hampshire; his fiancee, Mary LeBlanc of Springfield, Vermont; his sisters, Joan Collins of Erie, Pennsylvania and Geraldine Gagnon and her husband Ernie of Newport, Vermont. Jack is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins, along with many close friends.

He was predeceased by his brother, Robert (Bob) Swiniarski.

Calling hours and a celebration of his life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vermont.

Mildred H. “Millie” Jarvis, 83

Mildred H. “Millie” Jarvis, 83, a longtime resident of Ascutney, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan.19, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She died peacefully with her daughters at her side. Millie was born Jan. 10, 1933, in St. Johnsbury, and was the daughter of Della May Higgins. She received her schooling in Weathersfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1950. She married Richard N. Jarvis on Dec. 28, 1957, and they were married 55 years until Dick passed away unexpectedly in 2012. Millie and Dick built their home in Ascutney, and moved there in 1963. She was employed at Joy Manufacturing Company in Claremont, at Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company in Windsor, and she worked at the Ascutney Post Office until retirement in 2012.

Millie enjoyed tending to her magnificent flower gardens, listening to country music, barn dances and helping others. Millie especially loved spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, her mother and her brother, Irving Eaton. Survivors include her daughters, Jean Bridgmon of Plant City, Florida, Linda Wright and her husband, Jeffery, of Wolcott, Vermont, and Lori Crane and her daughter, Olivia of Orlando, Florida; her stepdaughter, Cheryl McDerment and her husband, Herman of Ascutney; her sisters, Cynthia Eaton and her husband, Bill, of Fair Haven, Vermont, and Della May Richmond of Forest Grove, Oregon; her brother, Dick Richmond and his wife, Beverly, of Keene; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Both calling hours and funeral services will be at Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Friends and family may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, with funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26. Committal services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date at Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney.
