Howard D. Hill

Howard D. Hill, 86, died Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow.

He was born May 28, 1932, the son of Harry E. and Eva (Washburn) Hill, in Andover, where he attended local schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.

On April 7, 1956, he married Marlene L. Liberty in North Springfield.

Mr. Hill was employed as a machinist with Lovejoy Tool Co. for 38 years.

He was a member of Robert L. Johnson VFW Post 771 in Springfield.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, camping, and was a member of Hawk's Mountain Ridge Riders.

Survivors include his wife, of Ludlow; five children Howard Hill II, of Northwood, New Hampshire, Daniel and Lorrie Hill, both of North Springfield, Nancy Barror, of Springfield, Stephanie Lewis, of Woodstock; seven siblings Patricia Gannaway, Barry, Roy, Harry, Ruby, Doris and Darlene Hill; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Mr. Hill was predeceased by four siblings Vivian Currier, Mabel King, George and Darl Hill.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, where a calling hour will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service officiating by the Rev. George Keeler.

William G. Swenson

William G. Swenson, 74, passed away on Wednesday evening at the Springfield Health & Rehab Center in Springfield, Vermont, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Wesley and Gretchen (Graham) Swenson. He graduated from Radnor High School in Radnor, Pennsylvania, and attended Parks College in St. Louis, Missouri.

He served in the United States Army in Vietnam.

He was employed as an engineer at Jones & Lamson Machine Tool Co., Woodland Tool Co. and the Love-Joy Tool Co. He was a licensed pilot and had worked as a flight instructor at the Hartness State Airport in Springfield, Vermont.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, walking at Spring Weather, reading, hiking and camping. He also enjoyed building model airplanes and restored and raced motorcycles. Motorcycles were his passion and he especially liked Ducati, BMW, Triumph and Norton motorcycles.

He also loved animals and rescued senior dogs.

He is survived by his son, Matt Swenson, daughter Jennifer Swenson, sister Julie Schwartz, and was granddad to Brayden. He is also survived by one nephew, two nieces and many cousins and grand-nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Edward P. Laflamme

Edward P. “Teddy” Laflamme 78, of Springfield, passed away on Friday evening January 5, 2018 at Hanover Terrace in Hanover, N.H. He was born July 4, 1939 in Berlin, N.H. the son of Adrian and Francellia (Couture) Laflamme. He attended Springfield and Charlestown Schools.

He served in the United States Air Force for 6 years, and the Chester Army Reserves for 3 years.

On July 21, 1962 He married Sandra C. Wilson, She predeceased him on August 20, 2005.

On November 8, 2008 He married Ellen Noble in Springfield, Vermont.

He was employed at Great Eastern in North Springfield, Vermont, and as a Machinist with the LoveJoy Tool Co. in Springfield, Vt. for 35 years, retiring in 2002.

He was a member of the Springfield Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. # 1560, and the Springfield Moose Lodge Loyal Order of Moose # 679, a member of the Chester American Legion Post # 67, and a volunteer for the Springfield Fire Dept. for many years.

He was a member of the St. John’s Lodge # 41, member of Chapter # 25, Council # 18 and Holy Cross Commandery #12. A member of the Sinai Shriners # 3, a very active member of the Sinai Joe’s Clown Unit, past president of the Vt. Maple Sugar Bowl, and past director of the Montpelier # 151 RoJ’s.

He is survived by his wife Ellen of N. Springfield, Vt., one son Edward L. Laflamme of Springfield, four daughters – Tammy Haines, Debbie Lofton, and Lynn Seveir all of Louisiana, and Kimberly Laflamme of Walpole, N.H. Three step-daughters Angela Luman of Chester, Tina Moncieff of Samson, Alabama, and Katherine Bradley of Bellows Falls, Vt. Two brothers Leo Laflamme and Paul Laflamme both of Springfield. Eight grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild. Also by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and one brother William “Bob” Laflamme.

A memorial service and Masonic service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday January 20, 2018 at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt. Reverend Gerry Piper will officiate.

Friends may call at the Davis Chapel from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.

William Maynard

William “Bill” Maynard 81, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday December 31, 2017 at his home in Springfield, Vt. He was born February 1, 1936 in Bakersfield, Vermont the son of Lee H. and Mildred (Fletcher) Maynard. He graduated from Brigham Academy in Bakersfield, Vt.

He served in the United States Army in Korea.

On March 1966 He married Kathleen Campbell in Charlestown, N.H.

Bill was employed as a Machinist with LoveJoy Tool Co. in Springfield, Vt. for many years before moving to Texas in 1980 where he was employed with Texas Instruments for many years, retiring in 1998 and moving back to Springfield, Vt. in 2003. He loved all sports and was a N.Y. Yankee’s fan and a N.E. Patriots fan. He played baseball in High School and was signed to play professional baseball.

He loved gardening , feeding and watching the birds, he was an expert marksman, enjoyed reading news magazines and watching news programs, enjoyed puzzles and brain teasers, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen of Springfield, Vt. Daughter Monica Drake of Arlington, Texas, grandchildren Maxwell Drake and Amanda Drake, brother John Maynard of East Fairfield, Vt. Also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five sisters – Marjorie, Rhoda, Marie, Blanche and Pauline.

Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield on Saturday afternoon January 6, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt. in the Spring.

Harvey H. Jerard

Harvey H. Jerard passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017.

He was born on May 10, 1931 in Newport, New Hampshire, the son of Harvey O. and Doris M. Heard. He graduated from Stevens High School.

He worked at LoveJoy Tool for many years.

He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Lafko of Springfield, Vermont and Karen Morse of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Mark and Nicole, and three great-grandchildren, Ryder, Emerson and Michael.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Nancy and a grandson, Justin.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Springfield, Vermont.

Marcia L. Shambo

Marcia L. Shambo 56, passed away at her home in Springfield on Sunday Morning October 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 5, 1961 in Springfield, Vermont the daughter of Robert and Stella M. (Tarbell) Penn. She attended Springfield Schools.

Marcia worked at the Springfield Mobil Mart for many years, LoveJoy Tool Co. in Springfield for many years and most recently in assembly with Whelen Engineering Co. in Charlestown, N.H.

She enjoyed playing poker, played softball for many years, enjoyed watching sports and never missed one on her son’s many sporting events over the years, she was his number one fan. She also enjoyed puzzles.

Marcia was a very caring and giving person who always put other before herself.

She is survived by her son Edward O. Shambo III of Springfield, brother Greg Tarbell of Alstead, N.H. sisters – Sue Lohutko and Melodie Penn both of Springfield. Many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her extended Shambo family.

She was predeceased by her parents.

A celebration of life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday October 7, 2017 at the Robert L. Johnson V.F.W. Post in Springfield, Vt.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.

Everett C. Thurston Sr.

Everett C. Thurston Sr. of Windsor died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017. Born Nov. 5, 1923, in Roxbury, Vermont, he was predeceased by his second wife, Becky Derosier Thurston; his brothers, Carlton and Theron; and his parents, Clarence and Glenna Thurston (Martin) of Roxbury, Vermont.

He is survived by his sons, Everett C. Thurston Jr. of Roxbury, Vermont and Gary Thurston of Belgrade, Montana; his daughters, Glenna Thurston of Bellows Falls and Laurie O’Connor (Kenneth) of Chester; and a stepson, Gary Derosier (Gail) of Weathersfield; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Oliver of Ohio and Louise Stein (Richard) of Connecticut; a brother, Mervin Thurston of Arizona; and sister-in-law Phebe Thurston of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.

Everett was a farmer, carpenter, part-time manager of Park Street Bowl, a newspaper and tire deliveryman over the years and retired from Lovejoy Tool Company in the early 1980s. He loved bowling and bingo and his favorite “job” was calling bingo.

As a member of the Loyal Order Moose Lodges in Springfield, Vermont, he served as governor and he was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He lived in Randolph,Weathersfield and Springfield before moving to the Historic Homes of Runnemede in Windsor.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer St., in Springfield. Reverend Gerry Piper will officiate, followed by the interment of his ashes at St. Mary's Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Moose Hall, 39 South St., in Springfield, after the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Everett's name may be made to Loyal Order of Moose Lodges Charity Organization.

David W. Austin

David W. Austin, 78, of Bellows Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017.

He was born April 12, 1939, in Meadville, Pennsylvania and lived in Bellows Falls. He worked at Lovejoy Tools in Springfield, Vermont and Dunnings in North Walpole.

He was a lifetime member of Bellows Falls Moose Lodge #527.

He was predeceased by his brother, James Austin.

He is survived by his brother, Harry Austin of New York; his daughters, Barbara Tyrrell and her husband Keith Tyrrell Sr., of Bellows Falls and Sherry Libby and her husband Leland Libby; his stepsons, John Doane and his wife Darlene Doane of Johnson, Vermont and Tom Doane of Texas; his ex-wife, Shirley Greene of Bellows Falls; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

There will be a remembrance for David Austin from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Moose Lodge, #527, 59 Westminster St., in Bellows Falls.

Services will be private, at the convenience of the family.

Ralph A. Parsons, 74

Ralph A. Parsons, 74, passed away Sunday morning, May 8, 2016, at Springfield Hospital. He was born Sept. 4, 1941, in Ludlow, Vermont, the son of Ralph H. and Pauline (Dorey) Parsons. He attended Springfield schools. On Sept. 9, 1967, he married Linda M. Bruce in Springfield.

He was employed as a custodian at Cutler Nursing Home/Hanson Court Nursing Home in Springfield for several years, and later as a custodian at LoveJoy Tool Company in Springfield for 23 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and enjoyed walking.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of Springfield; two sons, Alexander Parsons and his wife, Rebekkah, of Keene and Michael Parsons and his companion, Kimberly Gendron, of Springfield; two grandchildren, Miles and Catherine; one brother, Ernest Parsons and his wife, Nancy, of Charlestown; three sisters, Marilyn Howard of Manchester, New Hampshire, Marlene McFadden of Springfield and Linda Snide, also of Springfield; also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Neil; and three sisters, Donna, Patricia and Dianne.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Springfield and will be announced at that time. Marcel P. Rouillard, 87

Marcel P. Rouillard, 87, of Claremont, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, in the company of his loving family. He was born March 20, 1928, in Mansonville, Quebec, the son of Alphonse and Adelia (Lessard) Rouillard. He attended school in Mansonville. As a young man he worked on his family’s dairy farm and as a logger and trucker. After immigrating to the United States in 1952, Marcel was employed at Keil Lock in Charlestown and at Lovejoy Tool in Springfield as a machinist until his retirement in 1991. On Oct. 11, 1952, he married Theresa Lavoie of Newport. Marcel was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Claremont. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and family time. br />
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Theresa; son, Bernard and his wife, Eleanor, of Windham, New Hampshire; daughter, Pauline of Loyalton, California and son, Robert and his wife, Cindy of Lempster; granddaughter, Mirielle Rouillard and her husband, Craig Potter, of Manchester, New Hampshire; grandson, Hunter Rouillard of Windham, New Hampshire; great-granddaughter, Elle Adelia; brother, Paul of Mansonville, Quebec; sisters, Madeline Lariviere of Richford, Vermont, Annette Dieziel of Newport and Reine Cote of St. Hubert, Quebec; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Rene, Raymond, Robert, Gerald and Germain; two sisters, Rose Lariviere and Beth Lariviere.

Visiting hours will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, prior to mass. A mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Claremont with Father Shawn Therrien officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
