Emily B. Shute, 102, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Springfield, the daughter of Newton and Laura (Bardon) Bishop.
She graduated in 1932 from Springfield High School and later, from Concord (New Hampshire) Business School.
On Sept. 15, 1945, she married Elbridge Clifton Shute in Springfield. He predeceased her Jan. 6, 2013.
Mrs. Shute worked at Springfield Savings & Loan and C.G. Leonard Insurance Agency for several years, and later assisted her husband with his business, Springfield Home Improvement Co., for many years, as well as running her home and caring for her family.
She was a member of United Methodist Church and its Women’s Fellowship Group, as well as a needlecraft club and the Alturian Club.
Survivors include a son, James Shute of Windsor, a grandson and great-grandson.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at United Methodist Church in Springfield, where friends may call at 1 p.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. Gerry Piper, pastor. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church, 10 Valley St., Springfield, VT 05156. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
