Cora Johnson, 98


Cora J. Johnson, 98, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Springfield Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Rutland, the daughter of Roy and Florence (Coon) Fenstermaker. She attended Rutland schools, graduating from Rutland High School in 1936. She married Carl H. Johnson on May 11, 1940, in Bridgewater Corners. He predeceased her on Aug. 22, 1999. She lived in Rutland for many years, moving to Springfield in 1967. She worked at the Economy Store in Rutland, and later at the Rutland Savings Bank. In Springfield, she worked at Vermont National Bank, retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of United Methodist Church in Springfield, the Springfield Senior Center, RSVP, the 1918 Club and the Precision Valley Squares. She enjoyed square dancing, ball room dancing, crocheting, knitting, and pottery.

She is survived by two sons, Carl H. Johnson Jr. of Springfield, and David B. Johnson of Chester, four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and several nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Carl; and two sisters Florence Minard and Virginia Bodre.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Davis Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2 p,m. with the Rev. Gerry Piper officiaing. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church, 10 Valley St., Springfield, VT 05156.\

My mom Ruth and Cora where good time friends in church and out. Mom has demetia but still from time to time mention Cora around me her son. Ill have mom say a prayer for you Cora. Rest in peace.
