Robert H. Douglas



Robert H. Douglas, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at his home. He was born March 3, 1928, in Endicott, New York, the son of Alan and Edith (Phileo) Douglas. He graduated high school in New York. On June 15, 1963, Mr. Douglas married Marian Stover in Bartonsville.

He was employed as a machinist with Cone Blanchard in Windsor, Bryant Grinder Co. and Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, for many years. He also worked as a truck driver with Idlenot Dairy in Springfield. He enjoyed playing violin, hiking, riding unicycle and word puzzles.

Survivors include two children Geoffrey Douglas, of Springfield, Deborah Kopefchny, of Toronto, Canada; three grandchildren; five siblings David, Gladys, Margaret, Elaine and Mary. Mr. Douglas was predeceased by his wife July 4, 2014, and a son, Rob Douglas, in 2004.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Andover Community Church in Andover, with the Rev. Daryl Martens officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Family Center, 365 Summer St., Springfield, VT 05156.

Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

David L. Rorison



David L. Rorison, 91, of Springfield, Vermont died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, surrounded by family. He was born in Rutland, Vermont on July 16, 1927, to Alstine and Helen (Lang) Rorison of Mendon, Vermont. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1945. After 15 months in the U.S. Marine Corps, he entered the Vermont State School of Agriculture (now Vermont Technical College) and graduated in 1947.

David married Eleanor Fairbank in 1949, moved to Springfield, and they enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage before she died in 1999. David was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will always be remembered by his love for his family, kindness to others, his wit, incredible strength, and work ethic.

David’s career started as a milk tester with Springfield DHIA in 1951, and after retirement from Idlenot Dairy in 1990, he returned to milk testing for another 20 years at DHIA.

He was active in the Springfield community, as a member of the Jaycees (Jr. Chamber of Commerce), the United Methodist Church, and the American Legion. He was also a volunteer firefighter. David was active at the Springfield Senior Center, where he served on the Senior Center Advisory Board. He and Eleanor square danced for 25 years with the Precision Valley Squares. They loved to go bowling and camping, and spending time with family and friends. David was a lifelong Red Sox fan. In 2009 he was named Springfield’s Senior Citizen of the Year.

David is survived by his brother Gilbert and his family of Rutland. He also leaves behind his five children: Robert (and Barbara), of Springfield, Vermont; Phyllis Hanus (and Thad), Thomas (and Jodi), of Weathersfield, Vermont; Gary (and Debra Whitcomb) of El Paso, Texas; and Kathleen (and Laurence Bassett) of Fairlee, Vermont; four grandchildren: Scott (and Becky) Greene, Stacie (and Carl) Marshall, Tim (and Sarah) Greene, and Megan (and Patrick) Applegate; nine great-grandchildren: Jonas, Chicory, Ruth, Owen, Finnegan, Dominic, Riley, Andrew, and MacKenna; several grandchildren-in-law, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Keith, in 1990, and a son-in-law, Francis Greene, in 2000.

There will be a visiting hour at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vermont, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, followed by an 11 a.m. service. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels program at Senior Solutions, 38 Pleasant Street, Springfield VT, or the Springfield Senior Center, 139 Main Street, Springfield, VT.

Paul B. Ingalls



Paul B. Ingalls 80, passed away on Saturday evening October 6, 2018 at the Springfield Health & Rehab. Center in Springfield, Vermont. He was born February 19, 1938 in Springfield, Vermont the son of Floyd and Marjorie (Sturtevant) Ingalls. He attended Chester Schools, and later attended the Woodrow Wilson Technical School in Virgina.

He was employed as a Truck Driver with Idlenot in Springfield, Vt. for many years, and later with H.P. Hood based out of Rockingham, Vt. He worked at BJK Chevrolet in North Springfield and Smith Relyea Chrysler Plymouth in Springfield for several years.

Paul enjoyed everything to do with cars, he enjoyed collecting die cast cars and was a NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed country music.

He is survived by his children : Kelly J. Parent, Wendy Ciufo, Martin Ingalls, Stacy L. Ingalls, Kelly J. Ingalls, Paula McFadden, and Paul B. Ingalls Jr. One brother Howard “Bud” Ingalls and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, also by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by four brothers ; John Ingalls, Floyd Ingalls, Richard Ingalls, and Robert Ingalls.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Springfield Health & Rehab. Center 105 Chester Road Springfield, Vt. 05156 or to the Springfield Humane Society 401 Skitchewaug Trail Springfield, Vt. 05156.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Walter Colteryahn



Walter Colteryahn, age 90, of Essex Junction, Vermont went to be with the Lord peacefully early Friday morning, Sept. 28, 2018, after having suffered a stroke earlier in the week.

Walter Paul Colteryahn was born to Walter H. and Margaret V. Colteryahn in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Jan. 9, 1928. The youngest of three children, Walt graduated from Massanutten Military Academy, and then attended Bucknell University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Belvoir from 1950 to 1952.

In 1953 Walt was married to Patricia Louis Smith of Lansdale, Pennsylvania. They lived the early years of their marriage in Pittsburgh, where Walt worked at the family-owned Colteryahn Dairy. There were multiple moves in the mid-'60s and '70s, but eventually Walt and Pat settled down in Springfield, Vermont where they spent the next 34 years. Until retirement, Walt worked in various capacities including plant engineer for Idlenot Dairy. More recently, they moved up to Essex Junction to be closer to their son and family.

Walt loved the Lord, and he loved people. He loved his family — near and far. He loved to be social, to make music, and to laugh. Walt and Pat were always deeply involved with their church and sang in the choir. Walt served on many committees throughout the years, including Habitat for Humanity and the Windsor County Court Diversion Board. He was a lay minister and served for a time in the Stephen Ministries. He loved playing the piano and being part of a jazz ensemble, playing old jazz tunes at numerous senior living facilities and nursing homes. He was a loving husband, and father to their two children. His caring, outgoing nature and giving of himself to serve was a witness to others for the love of Jesus Christ.

He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Colteryahn; sister Jane Davis and her husband John; brother William Colteryahn and his wife Carolyn. He is survived by his daughter Ruth C. Matason and husband Tom; son Philip J. Colteryahn and wife Meike; sister-in-law Alice Smith; brother-in-law Michael Smith and wife Carlyn; and grandchildren, Carolyn, Sarah, and Nathaniel Colteryahn; and many extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Memorial Church, 1033 Essex Road, in Williston, Vermont on Oct. 13, 2018 at 2 p.m. for those who would like to come to share, remember, and celebrate Walt’s life.

Please no flowers, but if desired, donations to honor Walt’s memory can be given to Compassion International or the NETS Center in Williston, Vermont.

Kevin L. Richardson



Kevin L. Richardson, 59, of Springfield, died Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

He was born Dec. 30, 1958, in Springfield, the son of Lee L. and Jean A. (Whight) Richardson.

He graduated in 1977 from Springfield High School.

Mr. Richardson was employed at Idlenot Dairy in North Springfield for many years and for the past 13 years, was a truck driver for the State of Vermont Highway Department, plowing the interstate during the winter months.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a fan of NASCAR, the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and Miami Dolphins.

Survivors include his parents, of Springfield; and a sister, Karen Aebi, of North Springfield.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield, with Ernest "Puggy" Lamphere officiating.

Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Laverne L. Lindamood



Laverne L. (Vern) Lindamood passed away at home in Springfield on Feb. 2, 2018. He was born in Fall River, Kansas on Jan. 15, 1933, to Leo and Naomi Lindamood. He graduated from Tech High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he met his future wife. Upon graduation from Butler University as a cadet colonel in ROTC, he was commissioned in the Air Force and immediately stationed at Bentwaters Air Force Base in England.

Working for a national company he lived in Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Pennsylvania and New York.

He came to Springfield, Vermont, in 1977 to be CFO of Idlenot Dairy. He was then CFO for Springfield Hospital for many years until his retirement. Asked to consult for Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) he again became a chief financial officer. After three tries over several years he finally retired. He always said work was his hobby.

Vern was predeceased by his parents, and identical twin sisters, Vonna Gilbert and Donna Duncan and their spouses. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Joyce; sons, Kent and his wife Karen; Curtis and his wife Kristen,; Greg and his wife Andrea; and son by choice Anthony Stevens. Also by 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his canine best friend Simon.

A celebration of Vern's life will be held at noon on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at the North Springfield Baptist Church.

Mary K. Laber, 97


Mary K. Laber, 97, passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2016, at the Elm Wood Center in Claremont. She was born June 10, 1918, in Springfield, the daughter of Michael and Ustena (Koudrate) Kazak. She attended Springfield schools. On Aug. 8, 1936, she married Ferris R. Laber in Springfield. He predeceased her on July 1, 2010. Mary was a mother and homemaker, who also worked at Jones and Lamson Machine Tool Company for several years, the Idlenot Farm and Dairy and was a night manager at the Idlenot Restaurant.

She was a member of the North Springfield Baptist Church and a member of the Twenty Niners. She was an outstanding cook, and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by one son, Robert M. Laber of Charlestown; two daughters, Debbie Lorinovich of York, Maine, and Susan Rock of Bridgeton, Maine; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ferris; one son, Richard F. Laber; two brothers, Walter Kazak and Connie Kazak; and three sisters, Lena Blanc, Nellie Riel and Annie Peterson.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at the North Springfield Baptist Church, Reverend George Keeler, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the North Springfield Baptist Church, P.O. Box 23, North Springfield, VT 05150. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
