Christopher A. McNutt



Christopher A. McNutt, 53, passed away suddenly on Nov. 15, 2018.

Chris was born in upstate New York and spent most of his childhood in Berkshire, Vermont. He then moved to Charlestown, where he graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield, Vermont in 1983.

Chris is survived by his wife Stephanie of North Charlestown and daughter Emily of Newport; his brother Ray McNutt of Indiana; nephews, Will and Matt, also of Indiana; an Aunt Beverley of Alburgh, Vermont; and various cousins. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Joan Slade of Claremont, and brother-in-law, Peter Slade of Hallowell, Maine. He was predeceased by his mother, Shirley (Moore) McNutt, and father, Larry McNutt, father-in-law, Paul Slade, and a brother-in-law, Matt Slade.

Chris worked at Marros Home Center as an assistant manager for 33 years. He was a helpful wealth of knowledge, with many friends and acquaintances and a valued employee who had a close relationship with Patty and the whole Marro family and coworkers.

Through high school Chris played football and became an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Father Shawn officiating.

Joshua E. Bates


Joshua Eric Bates, 34, of Charlestown, NH, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 23, 2018 in Springfield, VT. He was born in Hanover, NH on July 19, 1984, the son of Arthur S. and Tamra L. (Snide) Bates. Joshua graduated with his high school diploma in 2003. Joshua worked in maintenance for 100 River Street, LLC in Springfield, VT the past two years. Previously, he was a painter in the area for several years. Joshua had a passion for BMX bikes and riding and loved Mustangs. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Besides his parents, with whom he lived in Charlestown, NH, he leaves two daughters, Kristin and Kyleigh Bates of Somersworth, NH; his sister, Christina Bates of Claremont, NH; his maternal grandparents, Edward Snide of Guilford, Maine and Katherine Gault of Lake Alfred, Florida; his paternal grandmother, Jean Bates of Charlestown, NH; and aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Arthur W. Bates.

At Joshua’s request, no services are planned. Donations in Joshua’s memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.

Joshua may be gone but will never be forgotten. Love, Dad, Mom, Christina, family and friends.

Ronald D. Pellerin



Ronald Dwyer Pellerin, 76, passed away on June 30, 2018 at his home in Charlestown. He was born on October 24, 1941 in Springfield, Vermont, the son of Forrest Alden and Marjorie Ruth (Dwyer) Pellerin.

He worked for 32 years at Holmes Trucking as a truck driver. He enjoyed being outdoors, he loved hunting and fishing. Ronald was also a great grandfather.

His family includes his three grandchildren, Anthony K. Pellerin, Savanna E. Pellerin, and Ashland M. Pellerin; brothers, Jim Pellerin and his wife, Judy, Gary Pellerin and his wife, Brenda, John Pellerin, and Mike Pellerin.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Louise Pellerin and his sons, Anthony Kirk Pellerin and Ronald “Rocky” Pellerin.

A graveside service will be held at the Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown on Monday July 9th at 10 AM with Pastor Harold Noyes officiating.

Richard A. Wilder



Richard (Dick) A. Wilder, 85, formerly of Munsonville and Keene, New Hampshire, passed away on June 9, 2018 surrounded by his immediate family at Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida due to injuries sustained in a golf cart / car accident on May 12, 2018.

Richard was born on Sept. 13, 1932 in Munsonville, New Hampshire to Everett and Rose Wilder. He graduated from Keene High School, Keene, in 1950. He was a loving husband and father to his wife Jean and his two children, Nancy and David. He lived in Charlestown, New Hampshire, was an active member of the United Church of Christ, and helped rebuild the Sunday school and meeting area after a devastating fire. He also volunteered as a member of the Recreation Department funding and construction committee for the town swimming pool. He was a founding member of what is now know as the River Valley Community College, Machine Engineering Program. In Keene, he was a member of the Congregational Church and later retired in Lady Lake, Florida, where he loved to go to Disney with his wife every week. He was a mechanical design engineer for 36 years at Jones and Lamson Machine Co. in Springfield, Vermont, for one year at Kingsbury Machine Co. in Keene, and for seven years at Bryant Grinder Co. in Springfield. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate (BM2) during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1955, traveling the world 2.5 times aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Black DD666.

He is survived by his wife Jean of 62 years, currently of Lady Lake, Florida; a daughter, Nancy St. Pierre (Victor) of Charlestown, and a son, David Wilder (Lysa) of The Villages, Florida. He is also survived by grandchildren Stephanie Connell (Andrew), Heather Wellington (Allen), Justin Wilder (Jackie), and Patrick St Pierre (Grace); and great-grandchildren Jazelle, Dylan, Xander, Pierce, Jordyn, Preston, Parker, Reid, Becca, Jack and Sloane, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother Alden Wilder, sisters Linnea Hunt and Christine Chandler; and granddaughter Hillary St. Pierre-Ford.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 15 at 1012 Ann Ave., Lady Lake, Florida. His New Hampshire services and burial will be handled by Foley Funeral Home in Keene (www.foleyfuneralhome.com) at a later date in the family cemetery in the Munsonville.

Audrey L. Johnson



Audrey Louise Johnson, 77, of Central Street, Woodsville, N.H., died on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville.

Audrey was born on July 3, 1939, in Benton, N.H., to Kenneth R. and Marjorie (Elliott) DeRusha. She was a graduate of McIndoe Falls Academy, Class of 1957.

Audrey spent most of her adult life residing in the Charlestown and Claremont, N.H., area. Most recently, she worked as the front end manager in the Claremont Wal-Mart. Previously, she had been employed at American Brush and American Optical in Claremont. Also, she worked at the drug store in Charlestown. Following her retirement, she moved to Woodsville.

Audrey was a devout Catholic. She enjoyed attending Bible studies at the Opera Block. She loved being with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.

She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth R. DeRusha and Marjorie DeRusha; a husband, John Kentta; a sister, Mary DeRusha; and two brothers, William J. DeRusha and Kenneth E. “Bud” DeRusha.

She is survived by a daughter, Daryl Cady of Scarborough, Maine; two sons: James Come and wife Dee of Charlestown, N.H., Michael Kentta and wife Kim of Virginia; 14 grandchildren: Jessica Burlew, Eric Cady, Moraiah Sepulveda, Mikey Kentta, Brycen Kentta, Rylee Kentta, Caleb Kentta, Brayden Kentta, Buddy Morel, Barry Morel, Billy Morel, Ben Hastings, Brandon Hastings, and Jacob Vienne; one great grandson, Nicholas Burlew; two sisters: Margaret “Margie” Foster-Cota and husband Don of Peacham, Vt., and Jeanie Scott and husband Paul of Benton; a brother, Chester “Chet” DeRusha and wife Susan of Wilton, Maine; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; James Come, a former husband, of Charlestown and Fred Johnson, a former husband, of Springfield, Vt.

Calling hours will be on Friday, May 5, from 5-7 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H.

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church, 10 Center St., Wells River, Vt. Burial will be in the Wells River Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, N.H., or to the Activity Fund at the Opera Block, Woodsville, N.H.

Gregory A. Stone



Gregory A. Stone, 61, of Morways Park in Charlestown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1955, in Springfield, Vermont, the son of Richard and Margaret (Allan) Stone.

The family includes his partner, Yvonne Nadeau of Charlestown; two sons, James Stone of Epping, New Hampshire and Christian Stone of Unity; one daughter, Ingrid Pacetti of Unity; his sister, Janet McCann of Springfield, Vermont; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Barrett. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Plains Cemetery in Perkinsville. Debra J. Clark



Debra J. Clark, 64, of Charlestown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born May 11, 1952, in Springfield, Vermont, the daughter of Albert and Norma (Parker) Allen.

She was a graduate of Fall Mountain High School in the Class of 1970. Debra was the president of NHCTCA (City and Town Clerks) from 2012-2013 and president of the NHTCA (Tax Collectors) from 2013-2014. She enjoyed coloring and loved horses and owls.

The family includes her husband, Ronald Clark, whom she married on Oct. 13, 1973; two daughters, Jennifer J. Clark of Charlestown and Erica M. Clark and her husband, Daniel Cureton of New Milford, Connecticut; one granddaughter, Beatrice L. Clark; two step-grandchildren, Justes and Kal-el Cureton; three sisters, Marla Baldasaro, Susan Richardson and Rita Meservey; one brother, Rodney Allen; two stepbrothers, James Parris and Kim Parris; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Walter Albert Allen; her mother, Norma L. Parris; her brother, Gerald Allen; and her stepfather, Arthur Parris.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring. In the words of Debra, “Hug someone today and tell them you love them.”

David B. Houghton



David B. Houghton, 71, of Charlestown, N.H., passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 13, 2016, at Springfield Hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1945, in Windsor. He grew up on the family farm in Brownsville, and attended Windsor schools, graduating from Windsor High School Class of 1964. He married Nancy Smith on June 13, 1973, in Springfield, Vermont. Dave was employed as a machinist at the Fellows Gear Shaper, Sonnax, Design Standards, and Lovejoy Tool Company. Sylvia J. Howe, 79


Sylvia J. Howe, 79, passed away Sunday morning, March 27, 2016, at Springfield Hospital. She was born July 9, 1936, in Springfield, the daughter of Reginald M. and Rachel (Whipple) Page. She attended Springfield schools.

On Dec. 15, 1954, she married Alfred H. Howe in Springfield. They have made their home in Charlestown for many years. She was a mother and homemaker. Her life centered around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Sylvia enjoyed painting and drawing and was a wonderful artist. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards, playing bingo, knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Alfred; son Daryl H. Howe and his companion, Judy Kinrade, daughter Shelly J. Rullo and son-in-law James Boyland, all of Charlestown; daughter Cheryl E. Bates and her husband, Kenneth, of Kankakee, Illinois; two brothers, Donald I. Page and Reginald M. Page, both of Springfield; two sisters, Sandra Stewart and Beverlee Jones, both of Chester; eight grandsons, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; two daughters, Connie A. Boyland and Karen L. Howe; one grandson and one granddaughter. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. Reverend Gerry Piper, pastor of the United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney.

Barbara A. Piletz, 100


Barbara A. Piletz, 100, of Charlestown, died Sunday, Feb. 21, at her home. The daughter of George H. Adams and Etta A. Linfield, she was born in Randolph, Vermont in 1916 and lived in Braintree, Vermont, a place close to her heart. She also lived in Mascoma, Claremont and Cornish Flat and attended Kimball Union Academy, of which she was proud. She married Walter A. Piletz Sr., in 1937, and they moved to Charlestown in 1938 — her home ever since.

She was a member of the Braintree Hill Meeting House Historical Society and the Congregational Church in Charlestown. She loved meeting new people with whom she would always make immediate conversation. She regularly shared stories and poems. She loved her family and her countless special friends, including those she would meet with regularly at McDonald's in Springfield. She worked at Montgomery Ward and the Queen Shop in Claremont and Connecticut River Bank in Charlestown. She was a caregiver to many and for years, along with her husband, kept a skating rink for use by town children.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole A. Curtis of Charlestown; her son and daughter-in-law, Walter A. Piletz Jr., and Debra Piletz of Charlestown; four grandchildren, Monty J. Curtis of Boston, Massachusetts, Jessica L. Hagland (Scott) of Charlestown, Meredith B. McAllister of Charlestown and Damon M. Piletz (Angel) of Bergen, New York; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, her husband of 66 years, four brothers, two sisters, nieces and nephews.

Linda L. Richards, 67


Linda L. Richards, 67, of Charlestown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 19, 1948, in Weston, Vermont, the daughter of Malcolm and Doris (Potter) Woodcock.

She was a graduate of Springfield High School. Linda had worked for North Country Smokehouse for seven years and for UniFirst for two years. She was a member of the Life Fellowship Church and was very faithful in her religion. Linda enjoyed baking, listening to country music and reading. She loved spending time with her family and her cats and other animals.

The family includes her husband, Howard P. Richards Sr., with whom she shared more than 28 years of marriage; her children, Carolyn Morse of Denver, Colorado, Jean Morse of Claremont, George Morse of Springfield, Emery Morse Jr., of Windsor, Andrea Carrier and her husband, Matt, of Unity and Howard G. Richards and his girlfriend, April, of Charlestown; three granddaughters, Heather Morse, Tiffany Carrier and Emily Carrier; and one sister, Terry Ferris of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Karena Merrill.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St., in Claremont. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home, with Pastor David Grasso officiating. Burial will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery in the spring. A potluck reception will follow the service at the American Legion in Claremont. Katharine S. Young, 85


Katharine S. Young of Charlestown, 85, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at Valley Regional Hospital. She was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Everett, Massachusetts, the daughter of Elderic Barry and Evangeline Barry-Ranahan. Katharine had owned and operated Frenchie’s Grocery in Charlestown. She was a member of the Miller Art Center, the Saxtons River Art Guild, the American Legion, the Elks, the Moose, the Charlestown Senior Center and the Springfield Senior Center. Katharine loved to dance, sing karaoke, to play shuffleboard and cribbage. Her passion was her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Moore and her husband, Dennis, of Newton, New Hampshire; her sons, Joseph J. Innes and his wife, Ruth, of Bethany Bay, Delaware and Kevin M. Innes and his husband, Vincent Andrews, of Randolph, Massachusetts; a daughter-in-law, Robin Innes of Litchfield, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Amanda Dominguez and her husband, Nico, Joseph Innes and his wife, Diana, Scott Innes and his wife, Brittany, and Katy Innes; two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Biancha; one brother, Eldric Barry of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph John Innes II; a son, Scott F. Innes; and a sister, Patricia Hunt.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the St. Catherine of Siena Church in Charlestown, with Father Steven Lepine officiating. Burial will be held privately. Myron James Hobbs, 80


Myron James Hobbs, 80, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Peaceful Harvest in Charlestown. He was born April 7, 1935, in Springfield, the son of Myron John and Ethel (Obrien) Hobbs. He attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School Class of 1953. He served in the United States Army during peacetime. On Nov. 7, 1959, he married Jennie Manning at the Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield. She predeceased him Nov. 23, 2010.

Myron was employed at the A & P Grocery Store in Springfield, Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire, Hampshire Manufacturing for 10 years in production and receiving, and as an expeditor with Bryant Grinder Company in Springfield for 13 years.

He was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield, serving as deacon, trustee, financial secretary and greeter. He was also a member and past president of the Precision Valley Squares.

He is survived by one brother, Duane Hobbs of Woodsville, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church in the spring, with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Calvary Baptist Church, 156 Main St. Springfield, VT 05156.
