Harold W. Barrows

Harold Warren Barrows Jr. 82, of Perkinsville - "Jr. Papa".  On January 14, 2019 the world stood still as another strong soul was brought to peace. After a courageous battle with cancer - Jr now lays to rest.

The youngest and last one of eight, Harold was born on April 10, 1936 in Springfield, Vermont the son of Harold Sr., and Nellie (Pope) Barrows. He attended Springfield Schools, and enlisted in the United States Navy serving on the USS Yellowstone with his best friend and nephew Rodney Childs whom passed away in 2013.

On June 20, 1958 He married the woman of his dreams Kay F MacNamara in Claremont N.H. and the two of them started their family and settled in Perkinsville, Vt.

Harold, better known as Jr was employed for 18 years as a Fabricator for Jones & Lamson Machine Tool Co. in Springfield, Vt. He also worked for Parks & Woolson, as well as owner and operator of his own business; HW Barrows Inc. as a welder.

Jr was a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge # 41 in Springfield, as well as a Mt. Sinai Shriner. He was an avid sportsman who thoroughly enjoyed all the aspects of the great outdoors. He loved fishing the lakes of Vt. and up until the late 1980's he could be found at the four-season family camp on Lake Sunset in Orwell, Vt. One of his fishing trips to Ontario he was so proud of the fish he caught he called his wife to boast  about the salmon he had mounted for her living room wall, as you can imagine she was less than impressed. This fish remains an on going family joke for several years.

Jr and his sidekicks son Bob and best bud Brad Litchfield would spend countless hours out in the woods with their hunting dogs, mostly beagles and trapping. When deer season rolled around you rarely saw them - just like the illusive buck that got away. As hunting and four wheeling started to become a challenge for Jr. Brad and the other hunting buddies built Jr a dream hunting stand. This tree house had a ramp leading up to the carpeted well equipped cabin with a recliner, microwave, coffee maker, and heater. They wanted "the old man" to be comfortable and they nailed it.

Jr was predeceased by his parents, Harold & Nellie, and his siblings ; Warren "Skip", Wendell "Boob", Rachel, Bessie, Doris, Jackie and Shirley.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Kay M. Barrows of Perkinsville, Vt., daughter Doreen Frost and her husband Kenneth of Charlestown, N.H., son Robert "Bobby" Barrows and his wife Marcella of Brownsville, Vt. Grandaughter Jessica Reichardt and her husband Daniel and grandson Robert Barrows and fiance Tawana, and granddaughter Kristi. Great granddaughters Alexa and Kaylin Reichardt and Ave Barrows. Also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held in the Plain Cemetery in Perkinsville, Vt. at the convenience of the family in the Spring. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children - Boston, 51 Blossom Street Boston, MA 02114

Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield is assisting with arrangements.
