Wayne L. Burke, 83, died Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Springfield Health and Rehab Center.
He was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Sydney P. and Beatrice E. (Putnam) Burke.
He graduated in 1953 from Springfield High School.
Mr. Burke served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 10 years.
While in school, he worked at the First National Store. After his military service, he was employed at J&L for 26 years, and then went on to work for the Springfield School system and Readex. He enjoyed gardening and baseball.
Survivors include a brother, Lyle, of Charlotte, North Carolina, many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burke was predeceased by nine siblings, Blanche Lorinovich, Patricia Nelson, Colleen Fisk, Norman, Edward, Warren, Richard, Robert and Ruth Burke. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerry Piper officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
