Theresa M. Emery

Theresa M. “Terri” Emery, 90, died peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Mt. Ascutney Health Care Center in Windsor, VT, following a short illness. She was born December 10, 1926, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Archibald and Anne (Larabelle) Webster. She grew up in Detroit where she attended Catholic school and graduated from St. Henry Catholic High School. On November 25, 1951, she married Richard R. “Bob” Emery in Detroit, MI.

Having lived in the city until age 34, she then made several moves around the US with her husband and two children before settling in the rural outskirts of Springfield, VT, in 1970. She was a kind, loving, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a second mom to many nieces, nephews and friends of her children. Terri loved the Lord and was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Springfield and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Terri enjoyed going out dancing with her husband, raising her family, playing cards and board games, reading, traveling, sewing, cooking, and baking. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Hallmark movies, and trying to get lost with family or friends on scenic car rides. She cared for her live-in mother for many years until her death in 1974. Kind-hearted and interested in the well-being of others, Terri kept her wit, sense of humor, love of fun, and concern for her loved ones throughout her life. She was a good friend to many and loved by all who knew her.

In addition to raising her family, she worked as a Key Punch Operator, as a ticket agent at the Hartness State Airport in North Springfield, VT, with the Visiting Nurse Association, as a Clerk at Ames Dept. Store in Springfield, and later in life helped out on the Young’s Milky Way Farm in Springfield.

She is survived by her daughter Janice Young and her husband Ken of Springfield, son Rick Emery and his wife Ramona of Springfield, 5 grandchildren: Julie MacGlaflin (Jason), Kenny Young (Kelli), Ricky Emery, Catherine Emery, and Kyla Emery. 2 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and close friend and “adopted sister” Alice Young, mother of her son-in-law Ken. Terri was predeceased by her husband Bob on April 9, 1996, and by her siblings Jarrod, Margaret, and Marie.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Springfield, VT. Reverend Peter Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Springfield.
