Stanley H. Hodgeman


Stanley H. Hodgeman, 81, of Springfield, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, at Springfield Hospital.

He was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Sam and Hazel (Clay) Hodgeman. He grew up in Reading and graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1952. Stanley served in the U.S. Navy and was a proud veteran of the USS Prairie (AD-15).

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a scoutmaster for Troop 226 in Springfield as well as an adult trainer for the Green Mountain Council. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award.

He and his wife Judy owned and operated a successful sheet metal fabrication business in Wilton, New Hampshire for several years.

His favorite activity was traveling and camping with his wife and the Vermont Rolling Wheels Good Sam’s Club, where he was the Vermont state director for five years. However, he was most happy mowing the fields, harvesting firewood, or hiking/hunting, enjoying the peace and beauty of Vermont.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Judy (Bellows) Hodgeman of Springfield; three sons, Dexter Hodgeman and his wife, Beth, of Hampstead, New Hampshire, John Hodgeman of Greenville, New Hampshire and Donald Hodgeman of New Ipswich, New Hampshire; two daughters, Bonnie (Christie) Rix and her husband, Tony, of Hopkinton, New Hampshire and Lori (Christie) Muse and her fiance, Dan Gurney, of Springfield; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the North Springfield Baptist Church with Reverend George Keeler officiating. A reception, at the church, will immediately follow the service. The burial will be held at 6 p.m. at the Brownsville Cemetery in Brownsville. The Davis Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
