Norman C. Abbott, 75, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at his home in Weathersfield.
He was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Springfield, the son of Leonard and Rachel (Carey) Abbott, and he attended Springfield schools.
He worked on a farm in Brownsville as a young man and later, for Harry K. Sheppard as an equipment operator. He was employed at Springfield Electroplating and The Bomar Co. in Charlestown, New Hampshire, for several years. He retired in 2012 after 33 years of service running the Town of Weathersfield Transfer Station.
Mr. Abbott enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include children Nathan Abbott of Ascutney and Elizabeth Tatro of Texas; a brother, Clarence Abbott of North Springfield; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Doris, and his longtime companion, Bertha “Bertie” Peck.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. Private burial will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer St., Springfield, VT 05156.
