She was born May 28, 1925, in Tyson, the daughter of Thomas J. and Fern (Balch) Murphy.
She grew up in Ludlow where she met Reino Kalinen, who would become her husband of almost 62 years.
Mrs. Kalinen enjoyed book club meetings, weekly card games, crossword puzzles, reading the newspaper and attending adult continuing education lectures. She was also an avid fan of politics and supporter of the Vermont Democratic Party.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy, and her son, Reino Jr.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her sister, Ann Lawson; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband and four siblings, Helen Wheeler, John, Tom and Harry Murphy.
The private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
