Ivan R. Larabee Jr.



Ivan R. Larabee Jr. “Ike” 81, of Springfield, passed away on Monday evening October 8, 2018 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born April 6, 1937 in Dalton, New Hampshire the son of Ivan Sr. and Grace (LaClair) Larabee. He graduated from Springfield High School and the Co-Op Course in 1956.

On March 6, 1960 He married Elizabeth “Betty” Reasoner in Springfield, Vermont, She predeceased him on January 6, 2013. He was employed in Sales Engineering with the Bryant Grinder Co. in Springfield, Vt. for over 20 years.

He served in the National Guard, was a Scout Leader with Boy Scout Troop 252 for several years, a little league coach, and a past treasurer for the American Legion softball team.

He was a member of the North Springfield Baptist Church and involved with the Youth Fellowship group at the Church. He was also a member of St. Johns Lodge # 41 F.& A.M. in Springfield, Vt.

Ike enjoyed spending time with family and friends, spending time with his SHS classmates, golfing, skiing and snowmobiling, and deer camp at Willoughby Lodge. He was also an avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his son John Larabee of Grand Isle, Vt. daughter Lisa Wyman (Stanton) of Plymouth, Vt. 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. Brothers – Ernie Kangas, Tim Kangas, Tom Kangas, David Kangas, Mike Kangas, Gary Kangas, sisters – Beverly Ross, Valvet Mason, Melody Hacket, Joyce Kellog, Crystal McFarland, and Judy Pace. Also by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by brothers Roderick Larabee, Kevin Kangas and James Hebert, and by sister Sandra Knight.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday October 14, 2018 at the North Springfield Baptist Church, Reverend George Keeler Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield, Vt.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the North Springfield Baptist Church P.O. Box 23 North Springfield, Vt. 05150.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt.

I'm so sorry for you loss. I'm sure going to miss that great smile he always shared with everyone he met. He was a good man.

I worked with Ike for years and years (as did my husband, Mel). Now he will be buried with your mom and his new neighbor is my dear Mel. He was a great friend to both of us and everyone will miss him. Love, Claire Hatch

Ike's service is as I type. Wish I could be there. He was loved by all who ever encountered him. RIP Ike! Lanny Aldrich in Cary, NC
