Brian P. Miles

Brian Paul Miles 73, of Springfield, Vt. Passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday August 21, 2018. He was born on February 16, 1945 in Windsor, Vt. to Max and Beatrice ( Cady ) Miles. Despite being an only child, he had plenty of cousins to play with and to find mischief while growing up in Hammondsville, Vt on his grandparents farm. In 1964 he graduated from Springfield High School. He served his country as an Army Reservist and was honorably discharged in 1971.

Brian married Susan Olney in the summer of 1967. Susan gave birth to their only child Amy in 1970. For 34 years he worked at the talc mill in Ludlow, Vt. He was known for his many safety awards. In 1987 Brian and Susan divorced and after a few years set aside their differences and remained friends until the end.

Throughout his years Brian enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, country music and played many a hand of solitaire. His favorite thing to do was to go for a ride. He logged many hours on the dirt roads of the area, many with Amy by his side. Brian was also one who did not like the telephone, he much preferred to visit in person.

At the end of the summer in 2006 Brian succeeded in getting sober. This was his greatest life achievement. Through hard work, dedication and service he remained sober until the end. His hard work to remain sober included helping others get to meetings, sharing his story, facilitating local meetings, including those at the local prison, sitting on the board of the Turning Point Recovery Center and many other various positions to assist in the success of their programs.

Brian is survived by his daughter Amy Smith, granddaughter Micheala Smith, grandson Austin Smith, and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday evening August 31, 2018 at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to the Turning Point Recovery Center, 7 Morgan St. Springfield, Vt. 05156.
