Peter J. Wendt



Peter John Wendt, 81, of Springfield, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at his home.

He was born May 8, 1937, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of John F. and Meta (Behrens) Wendt.

He graduated in 1955 from New Rochelle (New York) High School.

Mr. Wendt then served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Salem.

On June 29, 1991, he married Patricia Ann Spooner in Brattleboro.

He was employed with Con-Rail Railroad Co. and the New Haven Railroad as an inspector and civil engineer, retiring after 52 years of service.

Mr. Wendt was a member of Brattleboro Masonic Lodge #102 F&AM, the Cairo Temple in Rutland, the Cairo Band and the Noble Mystic Shrine.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed cutting wood, collecting stamps, collecting and building model trains.

Survivors include wife, of North Springfield; three children Dawn Marie, Zane and Gregory Ahonen; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Ahonen.

The memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
