Edmund A. Basso

Edmund Albert Basso, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018 in Springfield, Vermont. Born July 12, 1920 in Baltimore, Vermont, Edmund was the son of Arthur and Marcella (Witherell) Basso. He is survived by both of his children, Muriel Hayes of Watertown, New York and Albert (Paula) Basso of Springfield, Vermont; his granddaughter, Michele Rose of Round Pond, Maine, and two great-grandchildren, Meghan and Luke.

Edmund resided his entire life in Vermont, wintering in Florida for the last 35 years. This past winter it was decided he should stay put at his place in Vermont. He sure did miss the warm weather and seeing all of his Florida friends. Edmund loved camping and was a member of the Good Sam Club. He and his late wife, Alice, went RV’ing for over 60 years across the U.S., including to Alaska, as well as much of Canada. Edmund and Alice were married for more than 75 years before her death on June 13, 2015. Edmund was a great talker and he enjoyed sharing stories with everyone he met. He listened well, learned plenty, and remembered it all, right to the end.

Edmund worked at Soucy Motors, as well as at the Fellows Gear Shaper and Bryant Grinder machine shops. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter of deer and bear. Throughout his life, he enjoyed all kinds of music and was a genius when it came to car repair and sound systems. He loved to tinker, and could fix pretty much anything. He truly was interested in everything, and although he was old, he was never out of date.

The family will be having a graveside gathering at 1 p.m., on Monday, July 2, at Oakland Cemetery, Route 106 in Springfield, Vermont. We will be laying both Edmund and Alice’s ashes to rest. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome.
