Albert M. Pixley



Albert Merrill Pixley, 101, of Springfield, died June 13, 2018.

He was born May 19, 1917, on Pease Road in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, the son of Burt and Grace Pollock.

He attended a one-room school, where he kept a vegetable garden, cut and stacked wood, and cut ice in the winter.

To attend Technical High School in Springfield, Massachusetts, he lived with his Aunt Emma and rode a bicycle to school. He graduated June 12, 1934.

He married Charlotte Flora Thaxter on May 4, 1940, in Brattleboro, and got a job at Bryant Chucking Grinder in Springfield, Vermont, where he worked 45 years until 1981.

In August 1953 they moved to White Street in Springfield, where they raised their sons Howard and Robert, and their daughters Betty and Flora.

His wife died on Christmas Day in 1997. Mr. Pixley moved into Springfield Senior & Rehabilitation Center on Chester Road at age 99.

Survivors include his children, Howard Pixley, Betty Wall and Flora Bush and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Robert Pixley.

Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m.. The Rev. George Keeler will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
