Charles R. Burton


Charles Burton age 74 of The Villages, FL, passed away on October 9, 2017 from complications of diabetes. He was born the son of Henry Burton and Annie Burton Goodell in Springfield, Vermont in 1943.

He graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield, Vermont, in 1961 and completed SHS’ Cooperative Patternmakers course in 1963. He enlisted in United States Army Reserve where he served from 1961 to 1969. As a young man in Vermont he enjoyed hunting and fishing in the hills of The Green Mountains.

He married Barbara Harvey in 1963 in Springfield, Vermont.

Charles worked for Jones & Lamson, O’Brien PatternWorks and Lucas Pattern. In Schenectady, New York he worked for General Electric Company. He retired due to health issues from diabetes in 1998.

In New York he was a member of Woodlin Swim & Racquet Club, Patternmakers League of North America and Helen Estates Homeowners Association. He volunteered as Assistant Coach on his boy’s teams at Scotia Little League and Babe Ruth League. He was an always present fan at Niskayuna High School sporting events during his boy’s time there with his distinctive hats standing out in the crowd.

He moved to The Villages, Florida in 2012 where he was active in various activities. He enjoyed golf, billiards and pool water exercise. He was a member of Duck Call Neighborhood Group and Fernandina & Friends Social Group.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, 2 sons Eric & Kathleen Burton of Glens Falls, NY and Colin & Jennifer Burton of Rutland, MA, 5 grandchildren, 3 brothers, Hank & Debbie Burton of Louisiana, William & Jeanne Burton and David Burton of Arizona, 2 sisters, Gloria & Ed LaRow and Joyce & Dennis Mitchell of Springfield, VT, Sister-in-Law Joyce & Bill MacDougall of The Villages, numerous nieces, nephews, grand nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister-in-law, Diane Burton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Manatee Recreation Center in the Villages, Florida on Wednesday, October 11th from 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Additional services will be held at a later date.
