Caroline Gierko Aiken, 96, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2017.
She was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Springfield, the daughter of Frank and Helen Gierko.
After attending Bay Path College, she worked at Springfield Local Telephone Co. for 20 years.
Mrs. Aiken was a communicant at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Springfield.
She volunteered at Springfield voting polls and at Springfield Hospital visiting patients.
She enjoyed playing cribbage and held her pilot's license.
Survivors include her three children Judy Robinson, David and Howard Aiken, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Aiken was predeceased by her husband, Howard George "Bunny" Aiken, who died in a plane crash in 1959; and her sisters Adeline Benson, Jenny Kane and Amelia Obuchowski. The memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pleasant Street, Springfield. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Adult Day Program, 266 River St., Springfield, VT 05156, www.Springfieldhospital.org/adult-day-program. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
