Gerald L. Smith



Gerald “Jerry” Lee Smith, 87, returned to his heavenly home on June 15, 2017. Jerry, as everyone knew him, graduated Springfield High School in Springfield, Vermont, and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 19, retiring nine years later after serving in the Korean War at the rank of Master Sargent, to marry the love of his life, Doris “Anne” Smith. Together, they taught their six children to believe in God and country, to work hard, play hard and to stick together. He worked as a milkman before finding his niche in administration, clerking at Laffin Supply Company and as housing manager with the Vermont State Housing Authority in Springfield, Vermont, for many years.

Jerry leaves family behind, which include two sons, Randy Smith and Scott Smith; his daughters, Debbie Kathan, Diane Lafoe and Evelyn “Katie” LaBarron. Jerry also leaves behind a brother, Wayne Smith,; and a sister, Darlene Mason; his grandchildren, Cheryl Furr, Wayne Smith, Matthew Shepard, Jessica Curtis, Tasha Sargent, Eric Smith, Gary Camley, Seth Camley, Samantha Chalifoux, Sherrine Camley, and others, including many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Anne Smith; his son, Larry Smith; his parents, Lawrence and Evelyn Smith; as well as his sisters, Virginia Herschel and Sylvia West.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at the Belmont Baptist Church, 49 Church Hill Road in Belmont, New Hampshire.
