Michael A. Shattuck

Michael Alan Shattuck, 72, passed away on Tuesday evening, March 28, 2017 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born November 23, 1944 in Springfield, Vermont, the son of Bernard O. and Mildred (Smith) Shattuck.

He attended Springfield schools, graduating from Springfield High School class of 1962.

He went on to receive an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wentworth College, and a Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern University. He served in the Army Reserves.

He was married to Carol (Killion) Shattuck of Reading, MA. They divorced, but maintained an amicable relationship even after they split.

He began his career in the Engineering Department of New England Telephone Co. in Boston, Massachusetts, and was integral to the installation of the company's first solar technology panels. He moved on to Barstow Engineering as an HVAC Engineer and continued to work on the early adoption of solar panel technology with Barstow. He later moved to New Hampshire to run his own business, where he worked as a successful HVAC Engineer.

His entrepreneurial spirit led to owning and operating a General Store and rental property in New Hampshire. While residing in New Hampshire he joined the Masons and was member of the Red Mountain Lodge #68.

Michael was especially fond of lakes and lake life. He was an avid skier and loved skiing Okemo, he enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting - although he once confessed that he didn't really care about being a successful deer hunter. He thought that deer were beautiful and he wouldn't want to kill one.

He was sharp witted and sarcastic. He found sobriety through AA and attempted to make amends with all while also helping others that were struggling.

He was tough in a quiet sort of way. He rarely complained and never wanted to burden anyone.

He is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife Michelle of Andover, Mass., and Steven and his wife Meryl of Ridgewood, N.J.; by one sister, Lynne Colby of Springfield, Vt.; his longtime and loving companion Lois Carmody of North Sandwich, N.H.; his former wife, Carol Shattuck Boben of Reading, Mass., by six grandchildren, and also by several nieces and nephews.
