Hildagarde G. Searle



Hildagarde G. Searle, 90, passed away at her home at 123 Reservoir Road, Springfield, Vermont, on her 71st wedding anniversary on Dec. 31, 2016. She was born in Northfield, Vermont on Sept. 27, 1926, to C. Arthur and Charlotte (Brown) Goodrich. She graduated from Northfield High School and attended Westbrook Junior College.

She married Richard H. Searle on Dec. 31, 1945. Following his graduation from Stevens Institute of Technology, they moved to Springfield, Vermont in 1949. The family lived in Perkinsville and Springfield for the rest of her life. She was predeceased by Dick on Nov. 27, 1993.

Hildagarde worked for Stevens Institute, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce and the Eagle Times, retiring in 1988. The family were lifetime skiers at Okemo, where she and her husband were members of the Okemo Ski Patrol for over 30 years. Hildagarde was a member of the Springfield Senior Center, and led the exercise group for 10 years. She was also an avid bicyclist, snowshoer, hiker, and she sailed on Lake Champlain and to the Bahamas.

She is survived by sons Andrew and Scott (wife Lai Kum) and daughter Nina (husband Tim Chan) and grandchildren Brian Searle, Eric Searle, Craig Searle, Stephanie Searle, Christopher Chan, Paula Chan, Jeremy Chan and Madeline Chan, as well as six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many good friends. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Lauraine Goodrich and brother Charlie Goodrich.

Hildagarde will be cremated and her ashes will join those of her husband and siblings in the Goodrich family plot in Northfield, Vermont. There will be a celebration of life for her many friends and family members in June 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Springfield Humane Society or to VNA Hospice of the Upper Valley.

Bradlee V. Starrett



Bradlee V. Starrett, 78, of SPringfield, died Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 5, 1938, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the son of Harold B. and Rose (Elliott) Starrett. He graduated from high school in Massachusetts.

Mr. Starrett worked in construction and retired as a captain from the U.S. Coast Guard after 21 years of service. He served on the Coast Guard Cutter Tamaroa during the Perfect Storm rescues.

He married Elaine Day Batchelder Oct. 31, 2009, in Springfield.

He was an avid deep sea fisherman, enjoyed hunting and sports, and was a national and international archery champion, as well as a champion bowler.

Survivors include his wife of Springfield; three sons, Kent and Keith Starrett, both of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, and Kirk Starrett, of Qukaiuii, Hawaii; four daughters, Kelly Babis and Kim Chartier, both of Phillipston, Massachusetts, Kristal Cioffi, of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, and Kathy Dargin, of Nashua, New Hampshire; a sister, Linda Whitaker, of Hampden, Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Starrett was predeceased by a brother, Terry Starrett.

The celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Bow Baptist Church in Weathersfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Ruth T. Janowski



Ruth T. Janowski, 93, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Thomas W. and Elizabeth (Williams) Thomas. She attended schools in Poultney, Vermont, and graduated from Poultney High School class of 1941.

On Aug. 3, 1957, she married Zigmunt R. Janowski in Proctorsville, Vermont. He predeceased her on Aug. 2, 2002. She had made her home in Springfield, Vermont, since 1957, and was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards, her flower gardens, playing bingo, bird watching and spending time at Adult Day Care. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was a very kind and gentle women who quietly and consistently lived her beliefs, always leading by example.

She is survived by one son, Gregory M. Janowski, and his wife, Valerie, of Springfield; one daughter, Gail J. Carlson, and her husband, Paul, of Sheridan, Wyoming; four grandchildren Zachary Janowski, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Molly, Ryan and Kristen Carlson, all of Sheridan, Wyoming; two brothers John Thomas of Maryland and Robert Thomas of Missouri; also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her siblings Thomas, Elizabeth, Margaret and Lester.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Springfield, Vermont. Reverend Gerry Piper, pastor, will officiate. Friends may call at the United Methodist Church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Cavendish Village Cemetery in Cavendish, Vermont, at a later date. Donna L. Aldrich



Donna L. Aldrich, 78, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at her home in Springfield. She was born Aug. 13, 1938, in Springfield, the daughter of Gerald and Thelma (Cady) Vittum.

She graduated from Springfield High School. Mrs. Aldrich was employed as a para-educator at Chester-Andover Elementary School for many years. She also owned and operated her own bakery for several years. She enjoyed camping.

Survivors include two sons Marty Aldrich, of Springfield, and Rick Aldrich, of Ascutney; four siblings Jerry and Larry Vittum, of Reading, Dick Vittum, of Springfield, Judy Henning, of Chester; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Malcolm Fowler, pastor, officiating.

Edith T. Levanovich



Edith T. Levanovich, 87, of Springfield, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow. She was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Brattleboro, the daughter of Edson and Mildred (Eddy) Tefft.

She graduated from Springfield High School and attended business school in Springfield, Massachusetts. On June 10, 1951, she married John Levanovich in Springfield. He died May 15, 2002.

Mrs. Levanovich was employed as a machinist with Bryant Grinder Co. in Springfield and for many years, with General Electric in Ludlow and Rutland, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an avid Red Sox fan.

Survivors include three children John "Jack" Levanovich, of Bethany, Oklahoma, Boris "Bob" Levanovich, of Morgan, and Roxi Benson, of Andover; a sister, Lynda Patenaude, of Chester; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burt E. Stevens



Burt E. Stevens, 93, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at his home in Springfield. He was born Dec. 16, 1923, in North Springfield, Vermont, to the late Ernest and Lena (Coburn) Stevens.

Burt resided in southern Vermont for most of his life. He also spent time in New York, New Mexico and Connecticut. Burt was a World War II veteran. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force.

Burt worked several jobs over the years, a few of which are Pinkerton’s Security, General Electric, and the Town of Springfield as well as being self-employed for several years.

Burt enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an active member of the Charlestown Bible Church in Charlestown. Anyone who knew Burt knew of his love of NASCAR and especially Jeff Gordon.

Burt was predeceased by his first wife, Reba Porter and second wife, Eugenie Spicer. Also by six siblings, two in infancy, one brother Forrest Stevens, and three sisters, Theda Carlisle, Rose Butler and Elisabeth Porter. He was also predeceased by a son, Brian R. Stevens; and two stepchildren Carla (Spicer) Clark and Robert Spicer. Surviving family includes his wife of over 16 years Frances (Ledoux) Stevens; two sisters, Flora Pierce and her husband, Fred, and Bernice Jenks, all of Ocala, Florida; two children, Gary B. Stevens and his wife, Karen, of Canterbury, Connecticut and Carla (Stevens) Pomenleau and her husband, Leonard, of Lebanon, Connecticut; three stepchildren, Paul Spicer, Vallery (Curtis) Bromley and John H. Curtis III; also by 28 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at the Charlestown Bible Church, 37 Hammond Road in Charlestown. A gathering will follow at the church. Gregory A. Stone



Gregory A. Stone, 61, of Morways Park in Charlestown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1955, in Springfield, Vermont, the son of Richard and Margaret (Allan) Stone.

The family includes his partner, Yvonne Nadeau of Charlestown; two sons, James Stone of Epping, New Hampshire and Christian Stone of Unity; one daughter, Ingrid Pacetti of Unity; his sister, Janet McCann of Springfield, Vermont; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Barrett. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Plains Cemetery in Perkinsville. Beverly Streeter (Grimes)



Beverly Streeter (Grimes), age 68, of Bradford, crossed over Tuesday, December 20, 2016, due to chronic kidney disease. She was born Oct. 2, 1948, in Springfield, Vermont, the daughter of Pauline and Harold Streeter.

For the last 15 years she led a non-profit group, the Vermont Sunshine Society Inc. She referred to this organization as a "gift" to her.

She is survived by her beloved companion of 25 years, Stephen J. Johnson; her younger brother, Richard Streeter and his wife, Natalie, of Mayer, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Kathi Streeter and Jayne Streeter; three daughters, Nikole and Audrey Ranieri of Wilder, Vermont and Andrea Grimes of Leominster, Massachusetts, nieces and nephews and her grandson, Noah Ranieri, who added years to her life and life to her years; and her friend Linnie Johnson who has been a constant source of fun and support over the years. She was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert Streeter (and his son Jeffery) and Raymond Streeter.

Before Bev retired in 2010, she worked for Craig Lewis and Doug Dulac at Fleck and Lewis Architects in Hanover, New Hampshire, and considered them two of the greatest guys in the world. Bev considered raising her daughters to be the most important thing in her life. She loved being a mom. She also loved riding with Steve on the trikes he built and visiting York, Maine, with her buddy Linnie.

Bev's cats, Gus and Holly, have helped her be more comfortable and heal more quickly after her many surgeries. Now they will be helping Steve to heal. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bev's name can be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, Enfield, NH 03748.

Wayne L. Corliss



Wayne L. Corliss, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at his home in Chester.

He was born Sept. 2, 1945, in Hardwick, the son of Leroy and Vera (Fleming) Corliss. He attended Springfield schools. Mr. Corliss served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. On July 1, 1967, he married Linda Blanchard in Reading.

He was employed as an equipment operator with Pike Industries for over 26 years. Mr. Corliss was a member of American Legion Post 67 in Chester. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Chester; three daughters Juanita Corliss of Hanover, New Hampshire, Melissa Riviezzo of Hartland and Tonya Herschel of Ascutney; seven siblings Craig and Gene Corliss, Linda Heath, all of Springfield, Ronald Corliss of Baltimore, Brian Corliss of Reading, Wendy Corliss of North Springfield and Sandy Robison of Claremont, New Hampshire; four grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Chris Corliss.

Debra J. Clark



Debra J. Clark, 64, of Charlestown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born May 11, 1952, in Springfield, Vermont, the daughter of Albert and Norma (Parker) Allen.

She was a graduate of Fall Mountain High School in the Class of 1970. Debra was the president of NHCTCA (City and Town Clerks) from 2012-2013 and president of the NHTCA (Tax Collectors) from 2013-2014. She enjoyed coloring and loved horses and owls.

The family includes her husband, Ronald Clark, whom she married on Oct. 13, 1973; two daughters, Jennifer J. Clark of Charlestown and Erica M. Clark and her husband, Daniel Cureton of New Milford, Connecticut; one granddaughter, Beatrice L. Clark; two step-grandchildren, Justes and Kal-el Cureton; three sisters, Marla Baldasaro, Susan Richardson and Rita Meservey; one brother, Rodney Allen; two stepbrothers, James Parris and Kim Parris; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Walter Albert Allen; her mother, Norma L. Parris; her brother, Gerald Allen; and her stepfather, Arthur Parris.

Eleanor B. Spencer



Eleanor B. Spencer, 91, passed away at her home in Perkinsville on Thursday evening, Dec. 15, 2016. She was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Barnard, Vermont, the daughter of Roy H. II and Hazel (Badger) Barnes. She attended schools in Woodstock, graduating from Woodstock High School.

On June 21, 1951, she married Leslie O. Spencer in North Pomfret, Vermont. He predeceased her on April 23, 1990. She worked as a telephone operator in Woodstock, a secretary, a cook for the hot lunch program at the Perkinsville School and as a seamstress from her home in Perkinsville for many years. Eleanor enjoyed nature, walking and caring for her flower gardens.

She is survived by two daughters Nancy Bladyka and her husband, Paul J., of Springfield, Mary Jane Tetreault of Perkinsville; two grandsons Tyler Bladyka and his wife, Jennifer, and Jesse Bladyka and his wife, Michelle; also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Victoria; son-in-law Jeffrey Tetreault; three brothers Charles Barnes and his wife, Cecilia, Wesley Barnes and Roy H. Barnes III; and by one sister, Hazel Barnes Dana.

Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield on Wednesday evening, Dec. 21, from 6 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Reverend Lucile Grambling will officiate. Burial will be in the Grout Cemetery in Perkinsville in the Spring. Nada Jacobs Steele



Nada Jacobs Steele, 81, a lifelong resident of Springfield, Vermont, passed away in her home after a period of failing health, on Dec. 13, 2016. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

She was born in Springfield on Nov. 21, 1935, and was the adopted daughter of Nellie (Lyons) and Roy Jacobs. Nada was a graduate of the Springfield High School. After completing clerical studies at the Green Mountain Junior College, she joined her father at Jones and Lamson for several years as a secretary.

Passionate about animals, Nada was a longtime supporter of the Springfield Humane Society and an active member of the Woodstock Dog Club for many years. She enjoyed showing her West Highland terriers, as well as competing in obedience with a variety of dog breeds. She also loved horses and spent many hours in the saddle accompanied by her children.

While her children were young, she spent the summers at the pool, surrounded by them and their friends. She enjoyed the beach, specifically York Beach, the site of her honeymoon, as well as yearly trips with her children. My most vivid memory of her is the neighborhood pool mom and her love for York Beach.

Nada was an incredible craftswoman, sharing her talents of knitting, cross-stitch and embroidery with those around her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles Steele, of Springfield; one son, Robert Steele and his wife, Sheri; one daughter; Natalee Roberts and her husband, Kenneth; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her son, William Steele.

David B. Houghton



David B. Houghton, 71, of Charlestown, N.H., passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 13, 2016, at Springfield Hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1945, in Windsor. He grew up on the family farm in Brownsville, and attended Windsor schools, graduating from Windsor High School Class of 1964. He married Nancy Smith on June 13, 1973, in Springfield, Vermont. Kevin R. Farley



Kevin R. Farley, 34, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at his home. He was born Jan. 2, 1982, in Springfield, the son of Peter and Lisa (Gordon) Farley. He graduated in 2000 from Springfield High School.

Mr. Farley was self-employed as a carpenter and landscaper. He enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and hunting.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Michael Farley; maternal grandparents Robert and Janet Gordon; a nephew; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Shannon; and paternal grandparents Maynard and Dorothy Farley.

Blanche Handly



Blanche Handly, 96, of Westmoreland, N.H., formerly of Highland Circle in Springfield, Vermont, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, New Hampshire, following a period of failing health.

She was born May 9, 1920, in Charlestown, the daughter of George and Elsie (Phelps) Blodgett. Blanche and her husband, Robert, had moved to California, where she had been employed as a cafeteria worker and later worked in a shoe store. Following their retirement, they moved back to Charlestown.

Blanche was predeceased by her husband, Robert Handly. Members of her family include four daughters, Portia Fulkerson, Deborah Henslee, Wendy Pester, Kathy Hunter; two sons, Kevin Handly and Kirk Handly; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. Graveside committal services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family at Forest Hill Cemetery in Charlestown.

Annette C. Jennings



Annette C. Jennings, 85, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, New Hampshire. She was born in Hallowell, Maine, the daughter of Archie R. and Josephine (Whitten) Colburn. She graduated in 1949 from Hollis, New Hampshire, High School. On Sept. 16, 1951, she married Richard F. Jennings in Hollis. He died April 1, 2012.

Mrs. Jennings raised her family in Springfield and worked as a bookkeeper for Palmer Goodrich for several years. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Springfield, the Order of Eastern Star and volunteered with United Way.

Survivors include three children Stanley and Christina Jennings of Springfield, and David Jennings of Lebanon, New Hampshire; a granddaughter; and a nephew. She was also predeceased by a sister, Jannette Stacklin.

Robert E. Bushway



Robert E. (Bob) Bushway, 85, passed away on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield, Vermont, surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 12, 1931 in Springfield, Vermont to Charles V. Bushway and Clara E. Stanford Bushway.

Bob grew up in Westminster West, Vermont and graduated from Bellows Falls High School in Bellows Falls, Vermont in 1947. He married Ruth M. Bashaw in 1951 in Charlestown, New Hampshire. They were happily married for 65 years.

In 1952, Bob went into the US Army and served in Korea as an army surveyor. He was discharged from active duty in 1954 and from the reserves in 1962, at the rank of corporal.

Bob worked for The MacMillin Company in Keene, New Hampshire for over 40 years. He was progressively promoted from carpenter to construction superintendent and then project engineer, and was assigned some of the company’s most challenging and prestigious projects. He directed the construction of hospitals, schools, factories, office buildings and housing complexes in New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. His work included the Deerfield Academy Natatorium in Deerfield, Massachusetts and Twin Farms Resort in Barnard, Vermont. Bob retired in 1997, but remained active with projects at home, for his children, and for the Charlestown Senior Center.

Bob loved country music and was an accomplished steel guitar player. He played in the country band “Country Sunshine” for many years with his wife Ruth. The band entertained at local clubs, restaurants, and private parties. Bob also enjoyed woodworking, mechanical work, and welding. He had a fully equipped woodworking shop and a mechanic’s bay where he built his own furniture, trailers, snow plows, and countless unique inventions. Creating a custom made solution to a specific need was one of Bob’s special talents.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Clara Bushway, his brother Charles H. Bushway, and his son, Bruce Bushway. Bob is survived by his wife Ruth of Charlestown, New Hampshire; his daughter Heidi Bushway and husband Greg Lorsbach of West Chesterfield, New Hampshire; his daughter-in-law Sherrie Bushway of Charlestown, New Hampshire; his brother William Bushway and wife Pat of Charlestown, New Hampshire; his sister Irene Brown of Gardner, Massachusetts; his half brothers Gordon Bushway of Pittstown, New York and Everett Bushway and wife Amy of Waterford, New York; his step mother Ida Bushway of Valley Falls, New York; his grandchildren Angelique Bushway, Martin Bushway and wife Annessa, Jennifer Bushway, and Justin Lorsbach and wife Beth; his great-grandchildren Ivy Warren, Brandon Bushway, Hannah and Miranda Lorsbach and Amir Muhammad; his sister-in-law Leona Bennett; his brother-in-law Gordon Bashaw; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visiting hours will be held at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel on 34 Main St. in Charlestown, New Hampshire on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. A memorial service will be held at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown with military honors. Edward Normand Austin



Edward Normand Austin, 83, formerly of Westwood Village in Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, New Hampshire following a period of failing health, and an extended stay at the V.A. in White River Junction, Vermont.

He was born in Springfield, Vermont to Elwood and Ruth Austin on Oct. 15, 1933. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Austin of Claremont, New Hampshire and brother John Austin of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. He grew up in South Reading, Vermont.

Ed was a retired Navy veteran. While living in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, he was president of the Fuzzy Few Organization and served as a Borough Councilman. He worked as a draftsman for Gannett Fleming, Inc of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for 30 years before retiring to Claremont, New Hampshire in 1995 after completing his work on the “Big Dig” in Boston. He later worked another 15 years driving the community bus in Claremont.

He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Elks Lodge, both of Claremont, New Hampshire Edward had a great sense of humor, was an avid reader, and enjoyed making puzzles and traveling the backroads of his hometown of Reading, Vermont reliving old stories of home. He was very proud of being the oldest Austin male.

Members of his family include his daughter Laurel Austin Hartwell and husband, Peter; and his son, Stephen Austin of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania; a grandson, Ryan Austin; a granddaughter Nicole Young and her husband Brian; three great granddaughters; Sarah, Samantha, Sabrina, all of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. Two brothers: Andrew Austin and his wife Judith of Claremont New Hampshire, Tim Austin and his wife Diane of Weathersfield, Vermont. Two sisters: Anne Austin Demers and husband George of E. Thetford, Vermont and Elaine Austin Crossman and husband Phil of Vinalhaven, Maine plus many nieces and nephews

The family wishes to extend our deep appreciation to Dr. Ivar Frithsen and the nurses and support staff at Valley Regional Hospital; also the staff at the VA in White River Jct. and Bayada Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care. A special thank you to his niece Julie for the care she gave him during his time of need.

Nancy Horton



Nancy Horton, 74, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at Springfield Hospital.

She was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Springfield, the daughter of Earl A. Sr. and Irene (Hutchinson) Lovell.

She graduated from Springfield High School.

On March 6, 1965, she married Wilbur H. Horton Sr. He died Nov. 27, 1996.

Mrs. Horton was employed as a cook with the Jones & Lamson Machine Tool Co. in Springfield for several years.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield where she served as deaconess, was in the church choir and women’s group.

She enjoyed crafts, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include three children Wilbur Horton Jr., Sherry Horton, Debbie Burr, all of Springfield; a granddaughter; six siblings Earl Jr., David, Norman, Caroline, Cathy and Mary Jane; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Horton was also predeceased by a brother, Ernest.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Malcolm Fowler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Plain Cemetery in Perkinsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 156 Main St., Springfield, VT 05156. Wayne C. Ranney



Wayne C. Ranney, 88, of Cavendish, died Dec. 5, 2016, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Mount Holly, the son of Nathan W. and Lucy (Hinkley) Ranney. He attended school in Fair Haven.

Mr. Ranney served in the U.S. Army in Korea and received the Purple Heart.

On June 21, 2007, he married Joanne Pelkey in Cavendish.

He was employed with General Electric in Rutland for 25 years, and Honeywell in Phoenix, Arizona, for several years. Mr. Ranney enjoyed fishing, vegetable and flower gardening, caring for his property, and was a Red Sox fan.

Survivors include his wife of Cavendish; two sons John Ranney of Chester and Mark Ranney of Oregon; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Irving Ranney of Rutland; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one daughter, Jeanne Ranney.

A graveside service will be held at the Cavendish Cemetery in the spring. The Rev. Abraham Gross, pastor of the Cavendish Baptist Church, will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Paul W. Evans



Paul W. Evans, 54, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at Springfield Hospital, of COPD.

Born Oct. 12, 1962, in Hawaii, he was the son of Peter and Ina (Wortman) Evans.

He graduated in 1981 from Springfield High School.

Mr. Evans was employed for 25 years at Mack Molding in Cavendish.

He enjoyed snowmobiling.

Survivors include his life partner of 23 years, Juanita Aldrich; his sister, Joann “Joy” Janssen of Pittsford; a niece and numerous cousins.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gerry Piper officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156.

Rodney W. Litchfield



Rodney W. Litchfield 66, of Castleton, died Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness surrounded by his family.

He was born May 15, 1950 in Springfield, VT the son of William G. and Barbara (Burton) Litchfield.

Rodney was a graduate of Springfield High School class of 1968. He married Corrina Taylor July 23, 1994, in Poultney.

A longtime truck driver, Rodney was employed for many years at Cumberland Farms and J & J Trucking.

Rodney was an avid hunter and was a hunting guide in Idaho for Clearwater Outfitters and also enjoyed big game hunts in Zimbabwe. He was also a bee keeper, loved telling stories and was a member of the Rutland County R.C. Flyers.

He is survived by his wife Corrina, of Castleton, his mother Barbara Litchfield, of Springfield, by his daughter, Tawnya Eaton and husband Paul of Fair Haven, by his step son Stephen Taylor and wife Tammy of Fair Haven, by his siblings, Bonnie Sue Munson and husband Jeff Hoyt of Glendale, AZ, Terrance Litchfield, of Benson, Thomas Litchfield of Clariton, IA and Paul Litchfield of Springfield, VT, by his grandchildren, Michael Doner, Aaron and Elias Eaton. Also by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and his former wife Eva Kendall.

He was predeceased by his father and his daughter Susan Litchfield who died Nov. 18, 1996.
