Nada Jacobs Steele

Nada Jacobs Steele, 81, a lifelong resident of Springfield, Vermont, passed away in her home after a period of failing health, on Dec. 13, 2016. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

She was born in Springfield on Nov. 21, 1935, and was the adopted daughter of Nellie (Lyons) and Roy Jacobs. Nada was a graduate of the Springfield High School. After completing clerical studies at the Green Mountain Junior College, she joined her father at Jones and Lamson for several years as a secretary.

Passionate about animals, Nada was a longtime supporter of the Springfield Humane Society and an active member of the Woodstock Dog Club for many years. She enjoyed showing her West Highland terriers, as well as competing in obedience with a variety of dog breeds. She also loved horses and spent many hours in the saddle accompanied by her children.

While her children were young, she spent the summers at the pool, surrounded by them and their friends. She enjoyed the beach, specifically York Beach, the site of her honeymoon, as well as yearly trips with her children. My most vivid memory of her is the neighborhood pool mom and her love for York Beach.

Nada was an incredible craftswoman, sharing her talents of knitting, cross-stitch and embroidery with those around her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles Steele, of Springfield; one son, Robert Steele and his wife, Sheri; one daughter; Natalee Roberts and her husband, Kenneth; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her son, William Steele.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nada's name to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, P.O. Box 105, Glenholden, PA 19026 (www.CMTAUSA.org). Based on her wishes, there with be no funeral arrangements.
