Siobhan Martel

Siobhan Fitzgerald Carroll Martel died on Friday, June 3, after a short illness.

She was born on March 15, 1931, in Carlow, Ireland, the daughter of Bridget Hiughney and John Fitzgerald.

She was a 1954 graduate of The General Hospital Birmingham School of Nurses with a registered nursing degree. Siobhan moved in 1970 to Springfield, Vermont, where she will be remembered for her dedication to patient care while working in the Emergency Room at Springfield Hospital and more recently, nursing at Sullivan County Home.

Siobhan is survived by her son, Ruaidrhi Carroll, his partner Danielle Dumont; and grandson Ruaidrhi Dumont Carroll; her stepchildren Deborah Hebert, David Martel and Dorothy Andrews; her brother, Patrick Fitzgerald of Carrickmacross, Ireland; and sister, Peggy Juggins of Coventry, England; and nieces and nephews in Ireland.

She is predeceased by brothers Jack and Dennis; and sisters Doreen, Marie and Sheila. She is also predeceased by her husband, Robert Martel; and ex-husband, Noel Carroll.

Funeral and burial will take place in Carlow, Ireland, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Grace Cottage Hospital.

A celebration of Siobhan’s life will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, in the Phelps Barn Pub at the Grafton Inn, Grafton, Vt.
