Ira R. Emerson, Jr.


Ira R. Emerson Jr., 52, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at his home.

He was born Jan. 30, 1964, in Springfield, the son of Ira R. and Zella M. (Holland) Emerson.

He graduated from Springfield High School, class of 1982.

Mr. Emerson worked as a chef in area restaurants over the years.

He volunteered for charitable organizations in Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York. He was on the founding committee for ACoRN of Vermont and New Hampshire and a trustee for the Springfield Alumni Association.

He was a member of the Springfield Community Players and served as president. He volunteered with Springfield on the Move and was president of the Whitcomb Building Tenants Association in Springfield.

Mr. Emerson enjoyed bowling and making wedding cakes.

Survivors include four sisters: Donna Jacobs, Cheryl Lynch, Laura Emerson, Rebecca Millard; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Jonathan; a nephew and two nieces.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at United Methodist Church in Springfield. The Rev. Gerry Piper, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Community Players, PO Box 113, Springfield, VT 05156. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Ira was a great man. He did so much work in the Springfield community. He and his wit and humor are already sorely missed.

What a shock...just found out today! Ira had a fun sense of humor and was an institution with the Springfield Players. He will be missed!!
