Cecil Waldo, 85, died Tuesday, June 14, at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 3, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Maurice and Lillian (Heyer) Waldo. He graduated from Chester High School in 1949, then married Shirley Perkins on July 8, 1950, in Springfield. They made their home in Chester for nearly 66 years.
Mr. Waldo was employed by The National Survey in Chester for many years, retiring in 1992.
He worked for the town of Chester in many capacities, including lister, zoning administrator, selectman, regional planner, firefighter and police officer. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mr. Waldo is survived by his wife; sons Brian and Steven Waldo; daughter, Cathy McWilliam; and several grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Chester, followed by a reception at the church. There are no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church of Chester, 162 Main St., Chester, VT 05143 Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
