George Erving McCormick, 64, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born Oct. 29, 1951, in Neptune, N.J., the son of Monti C. McCormick Sr. and Catherine (Vannote) McCormick. He attended schools in New Jersey and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Neptune City, N.J. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a volunteer fireman in Bradley Beach, N.J., for several years.
Mr. McCormick was employed as a truck driver for many years in New Jersey and most recently with GMH Transportation in Westminster until his retirement in 2014. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his three daughters, Georgia Empey of North Port, Fla., Diane McCormick of Springfield and Georgeann Turner also of Springfield; a brother, Lance McCormick of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sisters, Ethel Phillips, Patricia Post and Esther Sutton, all of New Jersey, and Kristyn McCormick of Arizona; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Monti C. McCormick Jr.; and three daughters, Linda Tarmen, Elizabeth McCormick and Julie McCormick.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, with the Rev. George Keeler officiating. Friends may call at the chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.
