Bertha L. Smith, 99

Bertha Lane Smith, 99, a native of Springfield, died Feb. 3, 2016, in South Daytona, Fla. She was born in Springfield and lived there until her husband of 66 years, Angus Smith, died in 2005. She married Mr. Smith June 3, 1939.

She then lived in Port Orange, Fla., prior to moving into her sister Della's home in South Daytona. Mrs. Smith worked for Jones & Lamson Machine Tool Co. and attorney Douglas Richards of Springfield. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, sewing, knitting, crocheting and other crafts. She made many RV trips across the country with her husband and their friends.

Survivors include her three children, Carol Ann, Willard and Neal; a sister, Della Henderson; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her brothers Alton, Ralph, William, Eugene, Ellis and Richard; and sisters Arlene Shannon, June Smith and Ettis Prouty.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, with visitation at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Methodist Church, 10 Valley St., Springfield, VT 05156.
