Mr. John Robert Hansen, born Dec. 20, 1928, in Staten Island, New York, to the late John and Gertrude Hansen, passed away peacefully at age 89 on June 22, 2018, in Staten Island.
John served five years in the United States Marine Corps, as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War, and later worked in the home building industry as a carpenter.
He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth Hansen. They married April 18, 1987, and shared 29 years together. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harry Hansen; sister, Mildred Hansen; step-grandchild, Travis Brassord; and step-great-grandson, T. J. Wesson.
John is survived by his stepson, Jeffrey Brassord; step-grandchildren Betsy and Kate; step-great-grandchildren Ben, Rachel, Devante, Jaxon and Addyand; his brother, George Hansen; sister, Gertrude Sullivan; niece, Jayne Hamilton, and great-nephew, Sean Hamilton.
He loved skiing, ski jumping, woodcarving and spending time with his family and friends. He attended Springfield United Methodist Church, Springfield, VT, and was a member of the Sons of Norway, Nansen Lodge.
Graveside services for John will be held in Springfield, VT, in Oakland Cemetery, Route 106, on July 13 at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Gerry Piper.
