Dorothy Ethel Fenton, 93, of Springfield, died Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community in Windsor.
She was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Elmont, Long Island, New York, the daughter of John and Hanna (Hyvonen) Bykko.
She graduated from Chester High School.
On Dec. 19, 1942, she married Merrill Fenton in Chester.
Mrs. Fenton worked in the cost office at Jones & Lamson, and later at Bryant Grinder Corp. During World War II, she joined the Civil Service and worked on B-29 and B-17 aircraft. She was assistant manager at a Chester drug store and a ski instructor at Okemo and Killington ski areas.
She served as a courtappointed guardian and advocate for the underprivileged and elderly.
She was a member of Windsor County Extension Service and Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield.
Mrs. Fenton enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, photography, sewing and furniture refinishing.
Survivors include a son, Richard, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years; a brother, Alan Bykko; and a granddaughter.
Per her wishes, the memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, with the Rev. Malcolm Fowler, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
