Gladys C. Coburn



Gladys C. (Carey) Coburn, 93, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Rockingham, the daughter of Clarence A. and Gertrude (Nichols) Carey. She attended Bellows Falls schools and graduated from Bellows Falls High School, Class of 1943. On Aug. 19, 1951, she married Wendell Coburn at the United Methodist Church in Springfield. He died in 2011 after having celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Mrs. Coburn was employed as an insurance underwriter at Lawrence & Wheeler Insurance in Springfield for 40 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield, the Vermont Sunshine Society and served on the Council on Aging. She was a blood donor and volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Gladys is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Leslie Carey, Robert Carey, Bernard Carey, Herbert Carey and Floyd Carey; and by three sisters, Marion Cutler, Mabel Goings and Rachel Abbott.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the United Methodist Church in Springfield, with Reverend Gerry Piper, pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Charlestown.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vermont
