Ruth P. Sherwood

Ruth Parker Sherwood, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Springfield, the daughter of Clair John and Mary Alice (Blodgett) Parker.

She graduated from Springfield schools and later earned a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Mrs. Sherwood was employed as a registered nurse at Springfield Hospital for a number of years and later worked as the first-aid technician at Bryant Grinder Corp. for many years.

She enjoyed collecting spoons and was a painter.

Survivors include her son, William Sherwood, of Lehigh, Pennsylvania; a sister, Mary Swanson, of Springfield; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, William M. Sherwood, in November 1962; and a brother, John Parker.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, with the Rev. Peter Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
