George Spafford



George Spafford, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident in Springfield on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

He was born Jan. 1, 1936, in Springfield, the son of Oscar and Ellen (Bose) Spafford, and he attended Springfield schools. Mr. Spafford married Pearl M. LaCoursere July 16, 1955.

He was employed as a general manager with Readex/NewsBank in Chester for 35 years. After retiring, he was a school bus driver for the town of Cavendish for 15 years.

He enjoyed his vegetable garden and animals, building things from recycled materials and reading the Bible.

Survivors include three children, Daniel Spafford, of Chester, David Spafford, of Stephensville, Montana, and Shirley Hills, of Charlestown, New Hampshire; six siblings, Roger Spafford, of Georgia, Francis, Patricia and Dorothy Spafford, Sharon Anoe, Ann Amsden, all of Chester; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Spafford was predeceased by his wife, Feb. 21, 2015, and a sister, Marjorie.

The memorial service at First Baptist Church of Chester and burial in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield, will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Chester, P.O. Box 187, Chester, VT 05143.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.



The memorial service for George Spafford, 81, who died Feb. 8, 2017, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at First Baptist Church in Chester. The Rev. Thomas Charlton, pastor, officiated. Burial will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.
